Meet Speaker Representative Margie Wilcox!
Our end of day speaker for the Forum will be Representative Margie Wilcox, Alabama House of Representatives, District 104. She will be speaking on her many experiences as a woman business owner and political figure.
Representative Wilcox is a self-made success story in our area. President and owner of Mobile Bay Transportation Company, Inc., Yellow Cab and Pensacola Bay Transportation Company, LLC, she began her career in transportation right out of high school. She started work at Mobile Bay Enterprises as bookkeeper and through the years worked her way up to management and eventually bought a division of the company. During this time, she was one of the early Women’s Business Center clients. Despite economic setbacks and repercussions of 9/11, she formed Pensacola Bay Transportation, LLC, and eventually purchased Yellow Cab of Mobile. Under her leadership, all of her aforementioned companies have significantly expanded their services and provided a positive economic impact along the Gulf Coast.
Representative Wilcox throughout her career has been active in the community and professional organizations such as the Mobile Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Mobile County Republican Executive Committee, Leadership Mobile, Envision Coastal Alabama, Pensacola Disability Summit Council & Penwheels and Business Council of Alabama to just name a few! She has also received many awards and business accolades over the years. Wilcox has worked diligently to institute programs such as “Access Yellow” which provides a discount fare for the elderly and disabled and many other grant related activities to improve transportation in Mobile County. This past year has seen her develop in her journey; she was elected to the Alabama House of Representatives in a special election in early 2014.
Much of her success and her companies’ can be attributed directly to her commitment to professionalism and entrepreneurial spirit. Her personal philosophy is: “Do what you said you’re going to do, when you said you’d do it!” This is something the WBA greatly applauds and we are excited to have such an accomplished speaker for our inaugural conference.
